For some years now Michael Pluempe has devoted a large chunk of his website
http://www.ergo-film.de
to exposing misleading guides or "address book swindles" as a literal translation would read. His work is invaluable in that he exposes a wide range of scams and companies that send misleading maishots, importantly he also names the men behind these companies. It appears that someone has not enjoyed being exposed!
On 07-Dec-2004 someone registered the domain www.ergo-film.com they used the name Carsten Sturm, gave an address in Duesseldorf and the email carstensturm70@hotmail.com This act of cybersquatting might have gone unnoticed had they not, sometime in late February 2005, uploaded a virtual mirror of the front pages of Michael's site. The only real difference is in the HTML code, the page looks the same but if you click a link you are transported to what must be some of the most repulsive bestial porn sites on the WWW.

The programmer appears to be a French speaker as the pages are named indexplue001.htm, indexplue002.htm Etc... All the way up to 11. Yes the depraved individual who did this has re-written 11 whole pages and literally hundreds of links.
Of course this is a criminal issue and we will just have to wait and see what the German Police make of their task.

This got us thinking, what if...
Sure enough on the 29th December 2004, just 3 weeks after the Ergo domain registration, someone went shopping for:
www.stopecg.com
www.stop-ecg.com
The Registrant gives the name Alex Skarepopi, and an address of 14 Wimpole Street, London, he used the email address morpheus_shin@hotmail.com and even gave a mobile phone number (Though it appears incomplete)
We would of course love to talk to 'Alex' and ask what he proposes to do with his new Internet real-estate, however a Google search for him conducted on 5th March 2005 revealed that no one with that surname had ever set foot in cyberspace! The address, 14 Wimpole Street was occupied at the time by the medical centre London Diabetes with a few flats above.
Things are never what they seem!
3rd Feb 2006 Or mysterious Mr. Skarepopi clearly likes his internet real estate, the domains expired on 29th December 2005, however on 4th January 2006 he was back to renew his holding for another year, the domains remain unused.
