Domain name registry warning

Posted 18th April 2002

A German Company based in the UK is sending misleading letters to domain name holders, invoicing them for £225.60 to remain on "The Central Web Page Register"

The letters give the impression that it is the domain name that will expire if the invoice is not paid, however this is not the case. All you will lose is your listing on the companies grandly named "Central Web Page Register", a listing most recipients of the invoice have been unaware they had.

The Company details are:
Central Web Pages Register Ltd,
788-790 Finchley Park Road,
London.
NW11 7JT
Tel: 020 8290 1151
http://www.c-w-p.co.uk (Website now removed (Oct 2002))

If you believe your domain name may be close to expiry check first with your hosting company or by typing your domain name in on the nominet website.

What should you do if you are contacted?

DO NOT pay any money until you are sure that it is for domain renewal. Remember that the actual cost of holding your domain name is a fraction of the £225.60 this company is asking.
