A SHOCKING invoice arrived at The Way Ahead, a Manchester driving school. It was for advertising in an internet guide to Europe - and was for almost 450 pounds
But the school's boss David Leak had done nothing more than complete a form that meant his firm would be listed in the European City Guide. "I believe their paperwork was deliberately misleading," he said. He complained to the Guide, based in Barcelona, Spain. But the company replied: "You have signed a contract with us and thus are committed to satisfying the requirements of that contract."
There's good news. After receiving more than 100 similar complaints, the Office of Fair Trading joined with Spanish authorities to end the scam. If you've had an unexpected bill from this lot, write to: Generalitat de Catalunya, Direccion General de Consumo y Seguridad Industrial, Avda. Diagonal, 405 bis, 08008 Barcelona, Spain.
